Karpov families

NOTE: We show two Karpov families that may or may not be related. One family originates with LEYZER ABRAM KARPOV, the other with YOSEF KARPOV.   (Skip to the YOSEF KARPOV family.)

LEYZER ABRAM KARPOV was born in Troskunai before 1846. He married Chaya (Eva), who was born in Lithuania in 1832. Leyzer Abram died in Anyksciai (Aniksht) in ~1877-1878, and Chaya died in Troskunai in 1891.

The six known children of Leyzer Abram and Chaya Karpov:

I.  Kopel Marks (Karpel) Karpov (later Copel Marks Caplan) was born in Troskunai in 1863. He married Asna Leah Berolsky, who was born in Lithuania in ~1864. The family emigrated to England. Asna died in 1923. Copel died on 6 October 1933 in Northumberland South, Northumberland, England. The five children of Kopel Karpov (Copel Caplan) and Asna Berolsky:

• Mortkhel Karpov (later Simon Max Caplan) was born in Troskunai on 3 August 1884. He married Sarah, who was born 10 September 1886. Simon Max died in Northumberland South, Northumberland, England, in 1950. The two children of Simon Max and Sarah Caplan:
• Rose Caplan was born in England on 10 November 1910. In 1945 in Northumberland South she married John Vallas, who was born on 6 March 1890. John Vallas died in April 1973 in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England.
• Saul Caplan was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, on 10 November 1916. He married [unknown] Young and they had three children, all born in Tynemouth, Northumberland. Saul died in North Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England, in October 1996.
• Orel Yankel Karpov (later Jacob Caplan) was born in Troskunai in 1885.
• Chaim Karpov (later Hyman Caplan) was born in Troskunai in 1894.
• Sora Malka Karpov (later Sarah Caplan) was born in Troskunai in 1896.
• Leyzer Abram Karpov (later Lazarus Caplan) was born in Troskunai in 1898. In 1932 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England, he married Rachel Wiseman, who was born in ~1908 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire North Riding, England. Lazarus died in Accrington, England, on 17 July 1974. The child of Lazarus Caplan and Rachel Wiseman:
• Alan Cyril Caplan was born in 1938 in Leeds North, Yorkshire West Riding, England. In 1962 in Leeds North, Yorkshire West Riding, he married Brenda J. Hirst.

II.  Abel Leyb Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1868.

III.  Efroim Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1870. He married Ana Tauba Etelzon, who was born in 1868. The four children of Efroim Karpov and Ana Tauba Etelzon:

• Chaya Michla Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1895.
• Etla Leah Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1897.
• Leyzer Abram Karpov was born in Troskunai on 30 November 1899.
• Yudel Karpov was born in Viesintos (Vishinte) in 1912. In Panevezys (Ponevezh) on 31 January 1934 he married Basa Dveira Brauer, who was born in Krekenava (Krakonove) in 1902.

IV.  Moshe Yosel Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1872. He married Sora Rivka Sapir, who was born in Viesintos (Vishinte) in ~1869. Moshe Yosel died before 1920, and Sora Rivka died in Troskunai in 1929.

• The seven children of Moshe Yosel Karpov and Sora Rivka Sapir:
• Chaya Beyla Karpov was born in Troskunai on 20 December 1893. Her married name was Fridman. She died likely in Cuba. The only known child of Chaya Beyla Karpov and [unknown] Fridman:
• Moshe Fridman was born in Troskunai in 1918.

• Berel (Berko) Karpov was born in Troskunai on 2 July 1897. On 13 June 1923 in Birzai (Birzh) he married Gita Tok, who was born in Birzai in 1899. The two known children of Berel Karpov and Gita Tok: PHOTO Children Moshe Yosel Karpov and Ester Mere Karpov (1928)
• Moshe Yosel Karpov was born in Viesintos (Vishinte) in 1924.
• Ester Mere Karpov, born in ~1926.
• David Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1899. He died in Troskunai at age six on 27 November 1906.
• Dveira (Dobra Michla) Karpov was born in 1903. She married Ruvin Gordon, who was born in Troskunai in ~1896. The only known child of Dveira Karpov and Ruvin Gordon:
• Israel Moshe Gordon was born in Troskunai on 9 April 1929.
• Abe (Abram Karpel) Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1906 or 1908. He emigrated to South Africa and married Bessie Schwarts, who was born in Johannesburg in 1907. Abe died on 13 February 1950, and Bessie died on 24 January 1996, both in Johannesburg.
• Rafel Karpov was born in Troskunai in ~1911. He died before 1950.
• Golda Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1911. On 9 June in Pasvalys (Posvol) she married Moshe (Mozel Mausa) Gordon, who was born in Troskunai in 1909. The two children of Golda Karpov and Moshe Gordon:
• Sora Rivka Gordon was born in Troskunai on 10 April 1934.
• Moshe Yosel Gordon was born in Troskunai on 28 February 1939.

V.  Nekhemye Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1874. On 8 January 1899 in Kupiskis (Kupeshok) he married Sheyna Hinda Ratsin, who was born in Kupiskis in 1875. The two children of Nekhemye Karpov and Sheyna Hinda Ratsin:

• Chaya Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1902.
• Karpel Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1904.

VI.  Leyzer Abram Karpov was born in Troskunai in September 1878. He married Sora Sheyna Shneider, who was born in ~1881. Leyzer was a shoemaker. When Jewish families were expelled to the east during World War I (1915), the family went to Yekaterinburg, Russia, and returned to Troskunai in 1921. Sora died in Troskunai in or before 1936. After her death, Leyzer emigrated to Brazil in 1936 with his youngest son. He died in São Paulo on 14 March 1940.

• The five children of Leyzer Abram Karpov and Sora Sheyna Shneider:
• Bentzion (Bentsel) Karpov, later Bencelis Karpovas, was born in Panevezys on 5 December 1902. He was the first in his family to emigrate to Brazil, and later sent for the rest of his family and his future wife, Nechama Krasovsky. Nechama was born in Troskunai on 5 May 1908, daughter of Binyomin and Feyga Krasovsky. Bencelis and Nechama married officially in São Paulo on 18 July 1942. Bencelis died on 7 July 1951, and Nechama died on 20 April 1968, both in São Paulo, Brazil.

• The two children of Bencelis Karpovas and Nechama Krasovsky:
• Felipe (Fayvel) Karpow was born on 19 February 1934. He married Cetka Wolkman. Felipe died on 22 March 1999.
• Bertha Silvia Karpovas

• Chana Karpov was born in Troskunai on 15 September 1907, and emigrated to Brazil, possibly in 1931. On 9 July 1932 in São Paulo, Brazil, Chana married Shmuel (Samuel José) Rycer, who was born 19 November 1901 in Kurów, Poland. Shmuel died on 15 August 1971, and Chana died on 9 September 1995, both in Brazil.

• The two children of Chana Karpov and Samuel Rycer:
• Dora Bertha (Devora Beyshe) Rycer was born on 15 April 1933. She married Luiz Duobles, who was born on 26 September 1928. Dora died on 13 December 2016.
• Sara Sofia Rycer was born in São Paulo on 8 June 1939 and died at the age of six months on 19 November 1939.
• Markel Meier (Mortkhel Meier) Karpov was born in Troskunai in ~1910. On 28 May 1926, at the age of 16-17, he drowned in the Šventoji River in Anyksciai (Aniksht).
• Shloma (Chaim Shloma) Karpov was born in Troskunai in ~1913. He died in Troskunai at age 12, on 10 January 1926.

• Yosef Elye Karpov (later Josif Elijas Karpovas) was born on 6 September 1917 in Vladimir, Russia.^[NOTE]During World War I, Russian authorities forcibly expelled tens of thousands of Jews to the east. The Karpov family was evacuated to Russia in 1915 and returned to Troskunai in 1921. In 1936 he emigrated with his father to São Paulo, Brazil. He married Sabina (Sheyndl) Solender, who was born in Tarnów, Poland, on 2 June 1923 and emigrated to Brazil in 1926. Josif died on 20 March 1971, and Sabina died on 1 July 2019, both in São Paulo, Brazil.

• The children of Josif Elijas Karpovas and Sabina Solender:
• Luiz Karpovas was born on 2 December 1942 in São Paulo, Brazil. On 14 June 1969 he married Mina Spilberg, who was born on 29 November 1944, daughter of Aron Spilberg and Hia Rosenthal Spilberg, both of whom were born in Bessarabia/Romania. Luiz died on 14 February 2005.
• Moacir Karpovas was born in São Paulo on 9 November 1947, twin brother of Beny. Moacir died as an infant on 27 March 1948.
• Beny Karpovas was born in São Paulo on 9 November 1947, twin brother of Moacir. On 14 December 1974 in São Paulo, he married Sonia Maria Cantelli, who was born on 21 May 1949.

YOSEF (YOSEL) KARPOV was born before 1810 in Raguva (Rogeve), and he died before 1869. His wife's name is unknown.

The two known children of Yosef Karpov:

I.  Abram Karpov was born in Raguva (Rogeve) in 1827. He married Rivka, who was born in 1835. Abram died in Anyksciai (Aniksht) on 25 May 1893. The six known children of Abram and Rivka Karpov:

• Leyb Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1865.
• Yosel Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1869. His wife's name was Malka. The two known children of Yosel and Malka Karpov:
• Sholom Karpov was born in Snipiskes (Shnipishuk), a suburb of Vilnius (Vilna), on 6 September 1899.
• Moshe Karpov was born in Vilnius on 16 March 1905. He died of smallpox in Vilnius on 12 December 1905, at the age of nine months.
• Mortkhel Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1871. He married Hena Eyla, who was born in 1873. The only known child of Mortkhel and Hena Eyla:
• Zelman Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1903.
• Yankel Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1873.
• Frada Karpov was born in Troskunai in in 1873.
• Chaim Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1877.

II.  Nekhemye Karpov was born in Raguva or Troskunai in 1860. He married Basia Toker, who was born in Ramygala (Remigole) in 1861 and died in Krakes (Krok) on 3 October 1936. The five known children of Nekhemye Karpov and Basia Toker:

• Frada Hena Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1880. In Vilnius on 13 December 1903 she married Mordkhel Zelman Flashman, who was born in Panevezys (Ponevezh) in 1878.
• Tauba Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1882.
• Yosel Karpov was born in Troskunai in 1884.
• Abram David Karpov was born in Ramygala in 1894. In Krakes on 15 June 1923 he married Freda Leya Wolfson, who was born in Krakes on 9 November 1893.
• Shaya Karpov was born in Krakes in 1897. In Baisogala (Beysegole) on 11 March 1930 he married Riva Gordon, who was born in Krakes in 1909.
