The FRIEDMAN Family

My paternal grandmother was Celia Friedman, May 30, 1877-Oct 24, 1955. She came to the US in 1903.

Her parents were Israel Aaron Friedman, a townsman of Jacobstadt, and Leshka Nagla, born about 1854 in Rezekne. Their marriage was recorded on July 8, 1869 in Rezekne. They had about 6 children. Leshka was a daughter, I believe, of a Mowscha Berka Nagla and his wife Rachel.

Leshka's first husband Israel Aaron then apparently died in the early 1880's and she married a second time on January 27, 1887 in Rezekne to a Jankel Echiel Tscherfas. She had five more children with Jankel.

Jankel himself had been married earlier as well to a Dwora Pliner, who died Dec. 1, 1885 in Rezekne. They appear to have had about 5 children together.

When the Tscherfas children came to the US, some of them changed their name to Jaffe.

My paternal grandmother came to the U.S. in 1903. The available on-line census data show my paternal grandmother living at Soldatskaya 13-1, Rezekne in 1897.
