Nachman, who died between 1920-1922, was a harness maker. A family story is that a Russian cavalry officer came into town and demanded to see the town harness maker to perform a repair. As the repair was completed, the two of them stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. The officer admired Nachman’s boots. “Jew,” he said, “give me the boots.” He took the boots and left Nachman standing barefoot in the snow.
Malka died some time after 1927.
