Reconstructing Jewish Life in Narewka

(Click on photographs and/or text for larger images or additional pages.)

If you have any photographs, documents or stories that you would like to share, please feel free to contact me. I have been researching Narewka's Jewish families and am always pleased to receive photographs, whether taken there or elsewhere in Poland before World War II or from around the world in places to where many from Narewka immigrated. I inherited family photographs (and heard stories) and have obtained additional ones from cousins and from many others descended from natives of Narewka. Sometimes I have sought out descendants and other times people have found me from this website. Some people - or I - have even been able to recognize family members or family names in these photographs and we have even been able to link up long lost relatives. My goal is to connect families, identify those who were killed in the Shoah, as well as others, reconstruct Jewish life in Narewka, and commemorate its small, but vibrant Jewish community.
The majority of these photographs were taken between the wars, before World War II, but there are several which predate World War I, as well as two passport or identification papers and photographs when Narewka was under German occupation during the First World War.

Do you recognize anyone? We are trying to identify those who have not yet been. See below for some success stories.
This collection has been compiled, organized, and edited by Joy Kestenbaum, creator and coordinator of the Narewka JewishGen KehilaLinks, who has also researched and scanned the photographs that were not already in digital form.   The donors and/or owners of the photographs are noted below. The photographs and documents on this page and on the Narewka JewishGen KehilaLinks (formerly ShtetLinks) webpages may not be copied or used in any form without permission of the KehilaLinks coordinator and contributor, owner and/or copyright holder of the image. They are the property of the person or the institution that has given permission for their publication exclusively on this website.
