BOYARKA
Ukraine
There is no Yizkor book for the shtetl of Boyarka, so we do not have a large collection of stories about the daily lives of our ancestors. The Boyerker Benevolent Society created a Forty-Fifth Anniversary Journal that was produced in 1968 in conjunction with a celebratory dinner-dance that was held in New York City. The electronic copy was contributed by Daniel Goldberg (son of Herbert Goldberg, grandson of Harry & Ida Goldberg). Dan Goldberg's grandfather had served as President of the Boyerker Society in 1947, 1948, 1954, and 1955. Dan's grandmother, Chaika (Ida) Sokol Goldberg was active in the Boyerker Heimishe Ugent (the women's organization for the Boyerke Society.) The Journal is a very large file, but well worth reading. It contains a few stories, several hundred names, and dozens of photographs. This is a treasure for all of us. My thanks, again, to Dan Goldberg for painstakingly photographing his copy of the Journal for placement on this website. Please note that The American Jewish Historical Society, Center for Jewish History, has a copy of the Journal in their archives. They also retain other records and documents from the Boyerker Society. Their web address is: www.ajhs.org . The archives are located in Manhattan, NY and it is advised that you read the instructions on their website before heading down there. Site
