Schuchman Family

Schuchman Family
From left to right:  Name unknown, son of Ida (Ita) and Harry (Yerucham) Schuchman who died before family emigrated; Ida Schuchman; Sally (Shifka) Schuchman Haas; Machle Geidelman (Ida's sister), Ann (Chana) Schuchman Dubren.

This Schuchman Family photograph was taken in Ukraine several years before they emigrated to Chicago in 1921.
Harry Schuchman (the family patriarch) is missing from the photo, as he had left years earlier (in 1911) for Chicago
to earn passage money to bring the rest of the family.

At the start of their trip, Ida and the children arrived in Warsaw and waited there several months until their tickets arrived.
On arrival in New York, they stayed in with Harry's brother (a Schuchman) until they moved on to Chicago.

Sally (Shifka) married Izzy (Yitchak) Haas who was also from Lubin. The family story is that he came to the United States
using the passport of another brother of Shifka who had also died. Izzy's family name was originally Arunuz, later changed
to Aspiz and then to Haas in America.
