Life under Soviet Occupation

Following the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, the Soviets invaded Lithuania in 1940. They nationalized industrial factories and private businesses. Activities of Zionist movements and youth organizations were banned and Hebrew schools were closed. Instead, a Yiddish language school was established. Some of the leftist Jews got jobs at local municipal and government organizations.
