Important Information About Traveling in Ukraine

While travel conditions in the Ukraine have improved in recent years, the availability of tourist services is still slightly unpredictable

You will need a passport that is valid for six months beyond the planned date of travel. As of April 3, 2010, when this article was posted, U.S. citizens did not need a Ukrainian visa if the duration of their stay in the Ukraine does not exceed 90 days and the purpose of the visit is for tourism, private travel or business. For all other types of travel, advance registration for a visa is required. Please check the U.S. Department of State' s country-specific webpage for Ukraine.

Ukraine passed a law in 1997 that requires all travelers to have Ukrainian health insurance. It is purchased after arrival and covers only basic medical care at public hospitals and clinics. Private clinics are available, but can be expensive.

The U.S. Department of State encourages all U.S. citizens traveling or residing abroad to register via the State Department's travel registration website or at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.
