Valea lui Mihai Religious

~ Religious Life ~

The first to serve as Rabbi of Érmihályfalva was Rabbi Zvi ROSENBERG, from 1815 until his death, on 9 Kislev 1832. His son, Moshe Yochanan ROSENBERG, died 4 Adar 1848. He had two daughters: Hendel, who married David WOLNER (their grandson, David Leib WOLNER, a respected figure in Mizhhirya/Ökörmező/Volovo --- and affectionately named the "malach-angel" due to his lengthy prayers in a holy manner --- was killed at the hands of the Nazis), and Feiga, who married Rabbi Binyamin SCHONFELD.

Around 1838, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman MINCENT was appointed to serve as Rabbi, a position he held till his passing, on 7 Teves 1869. His son-in-law, Rabbi Shmuel GINZ, served as rabbi in Abraham. After his passing, Rabbi Yeshaya Hacohen RUBIN was appointed rabbi in 1869. He was born 1842, in Saras-Patak. He was rabbi in Érmihályfalva for over 20 years until his passing, on 17 Tishrei 1891 and he is buried there. He authored "Ateres Yeshaya." His son, Rabbi Yehuda RUBIN, first served as a dayan in Érmihályfalva, but later moved on to Paris, France.

The son of Rabbi Binyamin SCHONFELD --- Rabbi Moshe Yochanan SCHONFELD --- was born in 1849 and was the author of of the book "Nachalei Mayim." Rabbi Moshe Yochanan SCHONFELD served as Rabbi, from 1891 to 1913, and married Sara, the daughter of Rabbi Mordechai MARKEL, from Mikola, in the Szatmar megye, and they were blessed with twelve children. After his passing, two of his sons served as Rabbi: Rabbi Avrohom SCHONFELD and Rabbi Binyamin SCHONFELD. Another son, Rabbi Yekusiel Yehudah SCHONFELD, served as a Dayan (rabinnical court judge) in Ratzfert (Újfehértó), Hungary. One of his daughters, Tushena, married Rabbi Moshe SOFER who was the dayan in Eger (Erlau), Hungary.
