households in 1930's | Names from book by

In this part of the
Shtetl site you can find surnames and some given names from a variety of
sources. Please note that some of the sources relied on memory so this should
be used as a reference and might open new avenues of research.
You can find a link
to various indices indexed by the JRI Poland organization – indices in the
Polish state archives (PSA) of Zamość and Lublin as well as indices
found in LDS films. These indices cover most of the 19th century.
This data can be found here.
An additional major
source of data comes from a typed list in Yad VaShem.
The list was compiled in the 1950s by Nathan Irland, Żółkiewka-born. It describes two separate things:
1) Households with the number of members in the 1930s and the major
source of income. This can be found here.
2) Households and their fate if he knew of it - here.
You can find more data about the original list in the "Resources for Research in and about Żółkiewka" section of this site under "Additional Online
Resources".
A third source of
names comes from the memoirs of Chaim Zylberklang
also born in Żółkiewka. Chaim & Nathan
along with Mila Frydrich are the ones who had the
memorial built in Żółkiewka's old town square.
Chaim had written a book in
Polish about his life from early childhood in Żółkiewka through the war, the years "on the way" to Israel and
settling in Israel. The book has many anecdotes and gives a very good picture
as to how the Jews lived in Żółkiewka and
the surrounding villages. You can find more data about the book in the "Resources for Research in and about Żółkiewka" section of this site under "Books about
Żółkiewka".
In the current section you can find a list of names mentioned in the book as
part of the Jews of Żółkiewka. This data is here.
