The shtetl of Skidel is located just 31 kilometers east of Grodno on the road to Lida in Belarus.  Although today there are no Jewish families remaining in Skidel, at one time it was a bustling Jewish commercial center specializing in leather tanning.  Before the break-up of the Soviet Union, Skidel was a "Red City", regional headquarters of the Communist Party.  This site includes geographical, historical, travel, and genealogical information for those interested in researching their Skidel ancestry.
