WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL

Remembering the tragedy of World War II remains a prominent force in society, and in every town and village stands a Soviet-era memorial to the sufferings of 1941-1945.   This memorial in a prominent square in the center of Shklov is dedicated the soldiers killed in World War II.    Note that this memorial does not mention the thousands of Jews who were ruthlessly shot, only the soldiers who died in the fighting.    A separate memorial monument to the citizens of Shklov who died in the war 1941-1945 stands high on a hill in another part of town.   This monument also fails to mention the Jews.
