Leova Vital Records and Official Documents
"The inquiring file on the requests of locals of Leova to get their Romanian citizenship reconfirmed. 1924-1925."
Moldovan State Archives
Fond 2067, Opis 1, Files 2736 and 2737
In 1924 Bessarabian's were required to get their Romanian Citizenship reconfirmed. Various documents were submitted including birth records, marriage records, passports, and other official documents. A collection of these documents is held in the Moldovan State Archive and a microfilm copy is available at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington DC.
Below is about half of this collection. Your webmaster will get the remaining records from USHMM on a future trip to Washington DC, Hopefully in 2019.
A word about name spellings and transcriptions:
Transcription is a challenging task. Prior to 1918 Bessarabia was part of the Russian Empire and most Bessarabian Jews spoke Yiddish in the home and Russian when conversing with their neighbors. Since neither Russian or Yiddish utilize the Latin alphabet, every name written below is a transcription from another alphabet. Spelling choices made were the judgement choices of the various transcribers. Please keep in mind that name spellings will vary.
Please share any successes you have with the webmaster.
