This family portrait of Wolf Shapiro (1884-1953) and Ida Waldman
(1885-1958), who were born in Kupiskis
and died in Boston, Massachusetts, was taken circa 1922 in Buffalo, New York.
Their young daughter Helen Shapiro Rosenthal accompanies them in the photo.
Wolf and Ida left Kupiskis in 1913 for Buffalo, NY and Helen was born there in
1918. They moved to Revere, Massachusetts in approximately 1928, where
they found a vibrant Jewish community settled along Shirley Avenue.
There were other landsleit from Kupiskis in Revere, including several of Wolf
Shapiro's siblings --Yetta Shapiro Greenstein, Bessie Shapiro Beloff and
David Shapiro.
In addition, Wolf's wife, Ida Waldman Shapiro, had siblings who came to America
as well. They were Sarah Waldman Kaskel of Chicago, IL, and Louis Waldman
of Akron, Ohio.
