Rabbi Refoel WEISZ served as shochet (ritual slaughterer) for Eszeny & surrounding villages. |

Mordechai Gimpel KESZTENBAUM, a respected member of the village, married Henya Chaya (Fani DEUTCH) and lived for many years in Eszeny where he is buried. His son, Avraham Yaakov KESZTENBAUM, married Shifra TERKELTAUB the Brid'er Rabbi's daughter and eventually settled in Tisza-Újlak where he served as shochet (ritual slaughterer) for many years until his passing. Mordechai Gimpel's daughter, Lea (Lene), married Meir NEIMAN, a follower of the Belz Chassidus. They lived in Eszeny all their lives until their passing. Meir would immerse himself in the river as there was no mikva (ritual bathhouse) in the village. They had the followng children: |

Jewish families that lived in Esen', and possibly other nearby villages, used the Esen' cemetery as the final resting place for their loved ones. |
The cemetery is located alongside the road and has a cement wall and a gate. |
In the documents section of the "Other" tab, you will find a link to a U.S. Commission Report completed in 2005 that attempted to document Jewish Cemeteries (and Synagogues and Mass Grave Sites) in Ukraine. This cemetery is not listed as well as many other village cemeteries of the Zakarpats'ka oblast. |
