My interest in Romanovka is the result of research into the
location of a Tavern my great grandfather Chiam Itzuk Zhidovetsky
(or Czhidovetsky) operated under license in Romanovka. It is the
Romanovka between Nikolayev and Kherson on the Baltic. I don't know
if it is the correct Romanovka - however descendents claimed they
lived near Nikolayev and that is the only village I can find of the
three villages with the same name in Kherson Gebernya. I assume it
was in an agricultural community of some kind as he brewed the mash
for whiskey and made vodka in a barn attached to the tavern. The
barn was next to a small river and this coincides with the maps I
have seen of the area. It is about 50 miles north of Kherson. This
location was verified by Ella Goldberg Wolfe - my
famous first cousin once removed (married to Bertram David Wolfe)
who left living history tapes at Stanford University Hoover Center.
Family name was changed to Goldberg before leaving Ukraine. Marv
Goldberg
