Other Genealogy Websites


There are literally hundreds of genealogy sites available on the internet. Some to consider, either because of the size of their holdings, or special Jewish content:

European Websites

Genteam (https://www.genteam.eu/) - specializes in ancestral records from Austria and neighboring regions. It has a large database of Vienna records, including Vienna Jewish Community records. (A significant number of Dukla residents migrated to or through Vienna at varying times.)

RadixIndex - Hungarian and Central European genealogy and local history databases ( https://www.radixindex.com/) - contains a huge database of records concerning Hungarian communities, but of particular interest to Dukla researchers is its indexing of Austrian WWI casualty lists. Please refer to:

Genealogyindexer (https://genealogyindexer.org/) - a search engine for central and east European records. It includes 1.8 million pages in 3,240 historical directories; 159,000 pages of memorials of Jewish communities; 46,000 pages of community and personal histories and more.

Findmypast (https://www.findmypast.com) (A pay site) - this UK-centric site contains more British historical records than any other genealogy site. It may be of interest to those whose Dukla ancestors migrated to England at some point. (For example, a search will show former Dukla residents listed as Enemy Aliens and Internees during War II (see here; please put Dukla in the keyword search field):

American Websites

FamilySearch.org ( https://www.familysearch.org/en/ ) - this free website maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) (previously the Mormon Church) has probably world's largest collection of free family trees, genealogy records and resources.

Ancestry.com (www.ancestry.com) (A pay site) - Ancestry.com is the largest for-profit genealogy company in the world, and Its websites contain billions of historical records available to its 3 million paying subscribers. approximately 10 billion historical records, to have 3 million paying subscribers,

MyHeritage (www.myheritage.com) - is an online genealogy platform (with both free basic and paid premium subscriptions) where users of the platform can obtain their family trees, upload and browse through photos, and search through billions of historical records, among other features. Founded by an Israeli company, it may have more user-submitted Jewish family trees than other websites.

Newspapers.com (www.newspapers.com) (A Pay site) - this ancestry.com adjunct claims to have than 630 million imaged pages from 20,000 newspaper titles.

Find A Grave ( https://www.findagrave.com) - is the world's largest gravesite collection with more than 190 million volunteer transcriptions, most with photos.
