Samson of Ostropol the famous Kabalist Rabbi (1600-1648) whose writing are receited on Passover and who was massacred during the Chemnitike progroms.
(1770{?}-1810) Served as the Shohet in Ostropol and became famous for his humour. The forerunner of modern Jewish standup.
He grew up in Ostropol and then moved to London. He became a friend of of D, H. Lawrence, Virginia Woolf and Katherine Mansfield. A wonderfull book by Galya Diment tells his story in Ostropol and London.
He was born and grew up in Ostropol before WW2. He served in the Russian army and now lives and paints in Brighton Beach NY. He has painted wonderful picture of the Ostropol he knew. (Moisei Markovich Goldstein) 1891 -1918 an early Russian revolutionary exiled to Siberia in 1908, then migrated to the US. In 1917 he returned to take an leading part in the October revolution and was a colleque of Trotsky, Zinoview. He was was assasinated in 1918.
