  • 17 December 1788: City captured by Russian forces from the Ottoman Empire during siege

  • 9 January 1792: City of Özi is formally transferred to Russia at the end of the Russo-Turkish war and renamed Ochakov

  • 22 January 1918: Declaration of independence from the Russian Empire

  • 21 August 1941: Nazis occupy Ochakov

  • 22 October 1941: Massacre of Jews in Odessa district lasting multiple days

  • 30 March 1944: Liberation by Red Army forces

  • 24 August 1991: Independence from the Soviet Union
