Nyzhni Vorota Holocaust

The day after Passover 5704 (16 April 1944), the general roundup of all Nyzhni Vorota's Jews began.
They were all taken to the ghetto, where they cowered for a month or so and then were transported to Auschwitz.

Book: A Thriver's Journey (Electronic)
Author: Daniel Himmel
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services (7 April 2013)
ASIN: B00C775XI8

Summary: Dan Himmel grew up in New York City hearing plenty of stories about the Holocaust, but not a single one of them from his father, Jan Himmel (b. 1929 Nyzhni Vorota), who had been taken to the Birkenau Death Camp shortly after his fifteenth birthday.

Sixty years after his liberation, Jan Himmel finally broke his silence and allowed Dan to interview him over the course of several months. These interviews, together with Dan's insights about his own process of coming to terms with his father's experience, come together in a Holocaust memoir, written from the perspective of both father and son.
