The Cemetery in Myadel

The cemetery in Myadel was renovated in 1993. At the time the headstones were raised up and placed where they are today. The cemetery is on a hillside with mounded gravesites. The ground, in July, was uneven under humps of tall grasses. Many of the stones were almost covered with the vegetation. The stones are jagged, faded and illegible. However, when they were first raised, they were painted with a watercolor so that the stones were legible. Monas Gordon has the care of the cemetery. Visitors can contact him in Myadel for the key. Franklin J. Swartz, of the Belarus Cemetery Project, has planned a 2002 visit to the site for purpose of recording the stones.
