Over 20 years, the Munkács Hebrew Gymnasium educated over 1,400 male and female students.

It's first director, Dr. Chaim KUGEL, officially opened a gymnasium in September, 1924.

The location of the gymnasium building given by the city in 1925, later to be expanded and renovated.

The gymnasiunm educated students from the first through 12th grade.

It closed the doors on 3 November 1938 when the Hungarians arrived.

Then in 1939, the school reopened and closed again on 18 April 1944, the day all Jews were notified to report to the Munkács Ghetto.

~ Munkács Gymnasium Memorial ~

In 2014, to commerate 70 years since the closing of the Munkács gymnasium and the
deportation of Jews from from Sub-Carpathia, a memorial plaque was installed on the
former gymnasium building by descendents.
