Rabbi Alter Zvi Halevi GROSSMAN served as shochet (religious slaughterer) in Lyuta. He was born in Koshelovo in 1892 to Binyamin Yosef and Rechel Tsarna (née TERKELTAUB) GROSSMAN.
After marrying his wife, Sara RUTTNER, they settled in Lyuta where he served as shochet. During the war, most of the family was murdered.
Two daughters, Margalit (née GROSSMAN) Gold and Ita (née GROSSMAN) Fromowitz, survived and later lived in Israel.
A son-in-law, Rabbi Zeide Hersh ABRAMOVITZ, also survived and was for many years unable to leave Russia. He eventually moved to Bnei Brak, Israel.
~ Lyuta Cemetery ~
Jewish families that lived in Lyuta, and possibly other nearby villages, used the Lyuta cemetery as the final resting place for their loved ones.
The Jewish cemetery is located outside of town, on the mountainside. It is not maintained and it was very difficult to access the tombstones.
In the documents section of the "Other" tab, you will find a link to a U.S. Commission Report completed in 2005 that attempted to document Jewish Cemeteries (and Synagogues and Mass Grave Sites) in Ukraine.
This cemetery is not listed as well as many other village cemeteries of the Zakarpats'ka oblast.
Following are all of the tombstones found in the cemetery.
