There is very little
work to do in extracting a list
like this from a database where
one can search by town. Normally,
I would just post it whole and
refer people back to the search
engine page. But there are some
significant problems with this
Lyubar list, that can’t be fixed
in the original.
The first is that this
is an alphabetical list that stops
abruptly at the letter K. If I was
to search for prominent Lyubar
residents by name in the Trust’s
database, I expect that more would
show up. This kind of abridgement
suggests an error when being
transcribed to the searchable
database, or missing pages.
Second some of the
names are badly misinterpreted
from the originals. Most of the
name butchery can just be ascribed
to difficult handwriting, in the
records used by those managing the
assets purchased more than 125
years ago.
So, though this is a
short article and a small grouping
of men, I also contributed my
expertise. I compared the names to
those Jews who were eligible to
vote in Lyubar in 1906, 1907, and
1912 because they had taxable
property or other rights by their
tax ranking. All but one of these
men were enumerated as a property
owner in 1906 or 1907. The missing
person is the one listed as Awrum
Gletmann. I have no good
alternative to offer for his
surname. I noted Aria Beodar below
was probably Bondar, but the
Bondar family also appears in
Lyubar records as Binder. I
suspect what was misread as Beodar
was probably Bindar rather than
Bondar, just because of the way in
which it was misread.
I have included all
information the public database of
the Jewish Colonial Trust
bondholders as a group. I have
encouraged you to support ongoing
research by reserving the info
from the Voters Records which I
extracted from the Volinski
Vedemosti and with which I have
compared them. You can learn the
father’s names of everyone who
also appears in the Voter records,
or from those same records, you
can learn the names of others with
that same surname. The price is
just $14.00 for accessing the data
from an individual voter record,
or you can buy the whole list,
with the 1834 Revision List of
Ostropol, for just $50.00
USD.
Looking
forward to you joining us in
the research! – Deborah
