The Soviet Invasion 17 September 1939 The first strong shock wave passed through the town's relatively quiet way of life over generations with the entrance of the Red Army's tank columns on September 17, 1939. They were greeted with warmth by the citizens. The new government made efforts to integrate the town into the mold of the constitution of the Soviet regime. This revolutionary change undermined the generation-old Jewish way of life. |
