The memorial, surrounded by stones taken
from the old cemetery (now a soccer field).
Most of these stones were "trimmed" at the bottom - sometimes removing the names.
A closer view of four of the stones
removed from the old cemetery.
(All these stones are from
pre-Holocaust graves...)
Roman, the vice-mayor saw us at the cemetery site and offered to accompany us to the memorial.
(The road is not direct and directions to
the memorial are not marked.)
Roman, who was born after the War, told us (many times!) how hard he personally worked to get the memorial official recognition by the government.

I asked him if they take the school children to the memorial and he said "it's so far..."
But it wasn't too far to have the Jews walk
there to their deaths.
