Welcome to the website for the Jewish Community of Żuromin, Poland. Jews lived and maintained a vibrant community in Żuromin from at least the early 19th century until the Holocaust.
Although no Jews live in Żuromin today, our elders who lived there shared memories of the community that they loved, their rich family lives and the friendships of their youth. Descendants of Żurominers are found in far-flung corners of the world. They are eager for information about their ancestors and the town in which their ancestors lived.
Whatever your interest in, or connection to, Żuromin, you are welcome here. With our common roots in Żuromin, we are all family.
Preservation of History
In 1893 former Jewish townspeople from Zuromin formed a mutual aid society in the United States that still exists today. Such rare longevity is a testament to the powerful ties that bind us to the town. The society meets regularly twice a year in New Jersey to remember and honor our Zuromin ancestors. Our membership rolls include Zuromin descendants living all around the world. Together, we enjoy a bond of kinship stemming from our shared heritage in Zuromin.
Mindful of our ties to the town, it has long been our desire to erect a monument in Zuromin to honor and acknowledge the Jewish role in the town’s history. Ideally, such a monument would be situated where the Jewish synagogue once stood with a listing of the Jewish families who called Zuromin home prior to be driven out by the Nazis on November 8, 1939.
It is a work in progress and we will update you when we have more information on the Shul Monument Project. Our plan is to have a dedication ceremony in Zuromin, Poland. We hope you will join us on this memorable trip.
