My great grandparents Nathan Belinsky and Sena Lourie came from Vitebsk.
My grandmother told me that her father ran a still and she and one of her brothers went in it one day and drank so much that they were out for three days. The still was apparently illegal and the family left Vitebsk for England when they had warning of a Police raid.
