Ujazd's Jewish cemetery is today
covered by forest.
There is no construction
over it.
There are no matzevot remaining.
There are no signs or markers.
The photos show a raised area – an earthwork - which is probably what remains of a cemetery wall or fence.
Only one full side of the cemetery and half of another side are marked in this way – with a visible earthwork.
17 miles NE of Piotrków Trybunalski,
6 miles NW of Tomaszów Mazowiecki.
According to a 2009 report published on the International Jewish Cemetery Project,
" The Jewish cemetery was NW of the village. During WWII, the Germans completely destroyed it.
Its precise location is unknown. Not one gravestone survived."
However, the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland
recently sent a researcher to Ujazd and found the cemetery based on the 1915 map
of Ujazd below. Note the small Jewish star indicated by the red arrow.
The cemetery needs to be surveyed before it can be fenced and preserved. If you are interested
