My mother was born in Tiszalok and her family were from Tiszalok, going back

several generations.

My mother was one of 7 children born to Mor (Abraham) Halasi (originally

Husz) 1890-1944 (died Auschweitz) and Lenke Regina (Leah) Weinberger

1887-1944 (died Auschweitz). My grandfather was a tailor in Tiszalok.

Other siblings were:

Zoltan Halasi: 1913-1977 (died in Budapest, Hungary)

Andor Halasi: 1915-1915

Ilona Halasi: 1917-1995 my mother (Survived Auschweitz, died in Melbourne, Australia)

Laszlo Halasi: 1918-1975 (died in Budapest, Hungary)

Miklos Halasi: 1920-1944 (died Auschweitz)

Elemer Halasi: 1922-1975 (died in Toronto, Canada)

Erno Halasi: 1924-1944 (Died Auschweitz)

Margit Halasi: 1926-1980 (Survived Auschweitz, died in Melbourne, Australia)

My grandfather, Mor Halasi (Husz) originally came from Korosmeszo, Hungary -

Now Yasinga, Ukraine. His father was Alter Husz and his mother was Zipra

Geffen. Don't have any other information about that side of the family.

My grandmother, Lenke Weinberger came from a family who had been in Tiszalok

for a long time. Her father was Abraham Weinberger (1834-1908) and his

parents were Mozes Weinberger and Sari Czitrom. Her mother was Betti

Zicherman (1854-1940) whose parents were Jozsef Zicherman and Eszti Spiro.

As far as I can tell, these families were all from Tiszalok.  Abraham

Weinberger had been married previously to Rebi Adler, and one of their

children from this union was David Weinberger (1858 - ?) who married Lina

Levi (1865-?) in 1883 and had 5 children, of which only one survived to

adulthood, only to die in Auschweitz. Not sure when David & Lina died.

Abraham & Betti married in 1884 and had 7 children (including my grandmother).

Joszef Weinberger: 1885 -? Jozsef married Therese Salome and had a son

Laszlo Weinberger who later changed his surname to Vadasz.

Jakab Weinberger: 1888 - ? Jakab ended up in New York; had 2 sons - Eugene &

Allan Weinberger, last known to be in Florida.

Hermina Weinberger: 1890-1891

Nathan Weinberger: 1892 - ?

Terri Weinberger: 1894 - ?

Johanna Weinberger: 1896 - ?

Apart from Mor Halasi's parents, all the above were born in Tiszalok. The

Weinbergers seem to be a fairly large family in Tiszalok, but I have not

gone further than what I've listed so far. It's due for the next lot of

research.

According to my mother, she also had a cousin Dr Josef Fried who ended up in

New York, so somehow the Weinbergers are related to the Fried family - but I

don't have the connection yet.

I have virtually no information about my mother's life in Tiszalok.
