Uncle Hyman Reiter living with his family in New York was having hard times. He found a job in Portland, Oregon and like pioneers he, aunt Sarah and the children: Carlton, Philip, Rosalie, and Milton moved West.

Philip and Rosalie, teenagers, stopped to visit their aunt Lena and uncle Adolph in Toledo enroute to their new home.
