The Winds change directions 1927 - Chana retired after delivering babies for 10 years. She was about 75, living with Hyman and family. Bobbie, as she was called (Ukrainian for Bubbe) was "old world" to the family. I was told she conducted an orthodox Passover Seder-long, and boring to the children, of course, and out-of-step with the more Americanized adults. Several significant events occurred during this year. April 21st , Sidney turned 13 and was Bar Mitzvah'd, the only one in our family to have done so. It was probably because of Chana and the family could afford it. "On October 4th, Alfred Sloan (manager of General Motors) observed that a sudden dip in car sales announced that the end of expansion was at hand."(7) The Paramount movie theater opens. October 24th -the stock market crashes!! November 7, Adolph and Lena's fifth child, Frank, was born. The family was living at 2275 Jerome Street.
