Update on Indexing of Stryy Records in Polish Archives

Dear Stryy Researcher,

Many of you may be familiar with the AGAD Archives Project that is part of the larger JRI-Poland (Jewish Records Indexing) project. The AGAD archives is a repository of over 2,000 Jewish metrical books from eastern Galicia, and the purpose of the AGAD Archives Project is to deveop an online, searchable index for these records.

The AGAD archives is a potential treasure trove of records for Stryy--there are over 16,400 birth, marriage, and death records for Stryy covering the years 1858-1911. As far as we know, these are previously unavailable records--they have not been indexed by the Mormon Church, and are different than the records currently available at the Lviv State Archives.

Thanks to the generosity of a number of Stryy researchers, enough money was raised to index AGAD records for Stryy through 1911, and those records are now available through the JRI-Poland web site.  We are dependent on the generosity of those who benefit from the database. You will be the beneficiary of your own gift as will future generations of researchers. Please contribute what you can; no donation is too small.

Contributions can be made by check, bank draft, money order, or VISA card. To make a contribution go to http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/agad/agadcontrib.htm and follow the instructions there. All contributions should be marked "AGAD PROJECT--STRYY" If you send a check, please write on the check "AGAD PROJECT--STRYY."

For further information on the AGAD project, see http://www.jewishgen.org/JRI-PL/agad/index.htm.

The AGAD record indices contained in the JRI-Poland database would not be accessible to researchers without our host, JewishGen. In addition to your contribution to the JRI-Poland AGAD Project that supports indexing of the records, we hope you will also give to JewishGen to help defray the cost of maintaining these records. An easily accessible contribution form is available at http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/."

If you have any questions that are not addressed by the AGAD web pages mentioned above, let me know and I will try and get them answered.

Thank you very much for your support of this project.
