Original birth, marriage, and death records of local residents  dating  from c1898 through the present are archived here.  (Jewish records stop abruptly in the spring of 1942, of course.)  It is possible,  for a nominal fee,  to order official copies of this material, either by mail or in person. And be sure to ask for a copy of the signature of the person who filed the information--it may be your great-grandfather!

The National Archives of Slovakia contain extensive primary documents  of Stropkov and the vicinity, including military  and  land (tax) records, the 1940 Stropkov census,and  possibly the 1941 and 1942 Jewish censuses.  They also house a wide variety of  Holocaust documents, including the 1942 transport lists, Jewish passports--and more.
