Geography and Photos

House on the outskirts of town Outside the Skuodas Museum The Skuodas district municipality lies in the northern part of Lithuania's Klaipėda county, south of the Latvian border. The district is crossed by the Bartuva river with tributaries of the Apšė, Luoba, and the Šventoji; there are six lakes. The municipality encompasses a part of the Žemaitija National Park and the Salantai Regional Park. The area is primarily agricultural.

There is one town, Skuodas, and four townships: Barstyčiai, Ylakiai, Lenkimai and Mosėdis. The centre of the municipality is the town of Skuodas. From 1918-1940, Skuodas was a district (valsčius); since 1950 it has been the district centre. There is a good road network for carrying agricultural products to Klaipėda, Palanga and other cities and towns, as well as to Latvia and other countries.
