Holocaust Education Today

Mines Family features in Skuodas Museum display case, 2010 Holocaust Memorial Day, September 2013

I was surprised to find that Skuodas, a small town that certainly doesn’t have to impress the international community, has museum displays devoted to the Jewish history of the town and commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day every year on September 23. In the summer of 2013, I met with museum staff, two local teachers, and a gymnasium (high school) student, who is making a film on Jewish history for her graduating project, to discuss Holocaust education in the town. The teachers indicated that they would welcome some Lithuanian-language books on Jewish themes for their school libraries, which I was happy to organize and donate.
