WORTMAN Family

WORTMAN was one of the main families in Skalica during the 1800s: In Skalica BMD registration there are 37 entries of WORTMAN in between 1849 and 1874.
Here is what Mr. Robert Fraser wrote to me about his WORTMAN family:

Ignatz WORTMAN is buried in Vienna, died in 1924.

I only really know anything of substance about Robert WORTMAN and Josef, his brother. They both came to Vienna whilst still young.

Josef
married Therese NAGEL and they had children Henriette, Kaethe and Oskar.

Oskar migrated to the USA, Kaethe to London and I don't know about Henriette.

Josef
died in 1928.

Robert WORTMAN married Berta NAGEL (sister of Therese). No kids.
Robert and Josef went into business with their father-in-law Moritz NAGEL and opened a travel bureau in Vienna;
also a bureau de change and bank. The business failed in 1928 and Robert committed suicide, although he was also suffering from cancer.

Leopold WORTMAN died in France in 1940.
His son migrated to St Louis, USA and a daughter to NY where she became a noted musician and music teacher, dying at the age of 101.

Herman WORTMAN migrated to Switzerland.

That's all I know. Not much. The connection is that my grandmother was Malvine NAGEL,  sister of Therese and Berta NAGEL.
All three sisters died in the Shoah.
A brother, Sigmund, migrated to NY.  I know quite a lot about him.

That's all I can provide you. I wish it was more!

Regards,

Robert FRASER
