According to my family records my oldest
known ancestor from Skalica was:
A1) Ignatz (Yitzchak) KOLB, who was born in
approximately 1800
(perhaps in Skalica) and lived to
the age of 104. He
was buried in the cemetery in Skalica.
B1) His son, Albert KOLB (birth records
indicate his name was Adolf)
was born around 1835 (probably in Skalica)
and married Julie SPITZ around 1860. They had several
children -
C1) Karl, born November 25, 1866
in Skalica, d. June 13, 1933 in Vienna, married Theresa
POLLATSCHEK v. 1/24/1870, died 2/4/1921.
He moved to Gaweinstal and other Parts of
lower Austria and had 5 children, two of whom survived the
holocaust and emigrated to the U.S.
C2) Max, born December 1, 1868 in Skalica,
C3) Dorothea October 16, 1880,
died April 18, 1938 married Ignatz DRILL, b. 1884, d.
1940.
They lived in Laa, Austria and had one son,
Albert, b.8/28/1904, d. 10/18/1932.
C4) Julius
b. 1870 (died 1879 of a Diptheria epidemic), buried in
Pirawarth.
C5) Netty , b. about 1855, d. 1925 married Heinrich
SCHONFELD, b. about 1860, d.1920 of cancer. They had two
Children:
D1C5) Bernhard (emigrated to Argentina)
and
D2C5) Max who was a victim of the
holocaust along with his wife and two children.
C6) Adolf b. about 1870, d. 1910
in Angern, Austria, married Bertha. They had two
children:
D1C6) Steffy, b. 1902 and
D1C6) Elsa, b. 1903.
Steffy and Bertha perished in the
holocaust, while Elsa survived and emigrated to England.
According to my records the diphtheria epidemic of 1879 forced the opening of a new cemetary in Pirawarth, due to the filling of the Skalica cemetery.
That is pretty much all I have, though I
now suspect that the numerous other KOLBS (records in the Skalica
BMD)
are probably related to other children of Ignatz',
though I have been unable to connect them to my family.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
