Teréz LEFKOVICS (or LEFKOVITS), born in 1861, was my great-great-grandmother. Her parents, Dargo and Katti, were also from Sečovce/Gálszécs. Teréz married Bernát BLAU (born in Újfehértó), and the family lived in Karád (today Tiszakarád) until they emigrated, entering America through Ellis Island, destined for Chicago.
Bernát, a peddler and a decorated Austro-Hungarian infantryman who had served in Bosnia, left for the U.S. in 1892 along with his father, Albert. Teréz (listed as Theresia on the ship manifest) arrived in 1893. Bernát and Teréz's children later settled in Los Angeles. Their youngest son, Moritz (Morris in the U.S.), was my great-grandfather. Dexter BLAU was Morris’ son (my grandfather).
