When
in 1995 my family and I entered the village of Rozalimas for the
first time, we were struck by its beauty and authenticity. When
we met our hosts (family Birute Maiksteniene), we were
overwhelmed by their hospitality and kindness. As years went by
we became very close friends.
Birute
Maiksteniene
Birute herself was a teacher at the school
of Rozalimas. She taught English to children there .is now
retired. We asked her help for accomplishing our knowledge about
the Jewish citizens of Rozalimas. She helped us with the
interviewing of eye-witnesses of the raid by the Germans against
the Jews of Rozalimas. She helped us with the translation of some
articles. We are very grateful to her.
We also like to express our
gratitude for Algis Gliebus,
Aleksandras Olius Jovaisa,
, Stefa Klivickiene- Gruodyte,
Karolina Mikneviciene,
Vanda Vaidotiene, Reda
Maikstenaite, Danute Svetikiene-Dvelys, all
citizens of Rozalimas.I would like to express our gratitude for
Emilija Mikolaitiene, citizen of Klovainiai.
We are thankful for
the help we received from Lina van Kesteren who translated some
pages from Lithuanian into English for us.We would like to
heartily thank Mr and Mrs Kenneth Zucker (England) for the picture
of rabbi Yehezkel Zussman Brudno. And our special
thanks to Rita Hillel, nee Grevler ( Israel) whose contributions to
the descendants photogalleries is of extreme value. And of course we would like
to thank also heartily those who contributed to the descendants photogalleries.
Without the help of all these
dear people we would have been lost. I would like to thank our
eldest daughter, Lina, for her help with the correction. And I
would like to thank especially my dearest husband Arnold whose
advice and support were of great help to me.
My aim
is....
to tell people in general, and especially young people, about
the Jews of Rozalimas. In this way I hope to arouse the reader interest in the part of history which will be revealed as soon as
youll turn the page. It will be just a tiny part, because a
lot of valuable information, concerning the Jewish community of
Rozalimas, was destroyed during the Nazi-German Occupation (1941-1944)
in Lithuania. So youll understand of course that a lot of
questions I asked have still been unanswered till now. By means
of this bookletI also hope to reach those people who will be able
to answer some of my own questions.
Finally
I hope to reach the scientific group of people who are
specialized in Jewish history and hopefully to arouse their
interest in continuing further research concerning the Jewish
community of Rozalimas and Klovainiai
