There are documents that show that Rokytne was already in existence in 1862.
Records indicate that in that year there were one-hundred-eighteen houses in
Rokytne of unknown population.
Other records show that Rokytne originally belonged to royalty – Princess Anila Rzyszczewska.
The Jews of Rokytne earned their living in various ways – as artisans producing pottery; as shoemakers;
and as manufacturers of such diverse products as tar, glass and windmills.
Glass manufacturing became important because there was a geologically significant deposit of white and red
sands in the Rokitno area. There were twenty glass factories in Volyn Province, of which sixteen were owned by
Jews.
In the second half of the nineteenth century, a decree issued by the Tsar expelled Jews from
cities and villages. One can infer from this decree that Jews had been living in Rokytne in the 1880's.

There are no birth, death or marriage records for Rokytne found yet.
Apparently, inscriptions on headstones in the Osnitzek (a nearby shtetl) cemetery show that this cemetery is very old;
the Osnitzek cemetery contains graves of people from Rokytne, suggesting that Rokytne has been in existence for
some time.
Several of the headstones found in the Rokytne cemetery are shown below. To see the full set of photographs,
