The Jewish Records Indexing (Poland) project comprises a large database which enables one to trace birth, marriage, and death (BMD) registration records. However, despite the data provided by this database, one still needs to obtain the original document in order to extract additional information such as ages, names of parents, names of spouse etc. Despite this deficiency, the JRI-PL Project remains an essential and important starting point in the tracing of one's Polish relatives.

In the course of their research, several Krakow researchers have extracted additional vital record data which has now been pooled into an Expanded Vital Records. This database is meant only as a supplement to the JRI-PL database. Researchers are thus advised to first access the JRI-PL database where they should identify the individual, the type of record (BMD), and the Akt. number. Only then should the researcher consult the Expanded Vital Record database.

The prime function of this database is to identify the parents (in the case of births), the parents of both spouses (in the case of marriages), and the parents or spouse (in the case of deaths), as well as supplementary data such as ages, house address etc.. Many researchers have contributed to this database, but the prime founders of this project are listed below.

Note:

• Each record may have more than one surname. For example, a birth record may have the child's surname as well as the mother's maiden name. And a marriage record may have up to four different surnames (two spouses plus two maternal maiden names). This database is sorted according to the prime individual's surname. This is the surname that is found in the JRI-PL Database. In the case of marriages, it is arranged according to the husband's surname. Researchers are thus advised to peruse the entire record!
