(Death Announcement)

Barney Horwitz. Chairman of the Congregation wrote:

Congregants and those in our diaspora, I am sad to relate that Brian Jawno, brother of Shelly and Milton, father of Leora and Talya passed away unexpectedly on 16 April 2016. His Funeral took place at the Pinelands no 2 cemetery in Cape Town on 18 April. Although Brian left Kimberley some forty years ago, he is still well remembered by our community. He was educated at St Patrick's CBC locally and later entered the family transport business alongside his brother Milton who ran the family furniture business. Son of late Lionel and Lily Jawno who were the Mayor and Mayoress of Kimberley respectively from 1959 to 1961 he was very much part of one of Kimberley's leading families and very popular at school and amongst the youth of his day in the Community. In adult life he built Advance Removals into a countrywide operation and was respected as an astute businessman. We will remember Brian just before shul on Friday evening at 5.45 p.m. We convey our condolences to Brian's family and wish Milton, Shelley, his ex-wife Riva and daughters Leora and Talya long life. May you all be comforted together with all the other mourners in Zion at this time.

David Jawno wrote:  Brian was my uncle and I have really fond memories of him. I am absolutely at a loss for words.  Daughter Leora Adena Jawno Mofsowitz replied: Hi Adrian Barnet Horwitz thank you for this beautiful message about my dad. My dad was everything to us. An absolute mensch and out. He put everyone ahead of himself. I will come to Kimberley some time and connect again to the soil where I was born and where my father was born. Baruch Dayan Ha'emet
