Eliezer “Lazar” Vitkowski was born in Grajewo around 1852 and died in New York on November 12, 1933. His parents were Itzko Leyb Witkowski and Chaja Gitla Wittenberg. They had four sons, one of whom died a year after birth.
Prior to immigrating to the United States in 1920, Lazar lived in Goniadz with his wife Chana Treschansky. Chana and Lazar had nine (known) children. All of their children immigrated to the United States except his son Yitzhok Leyb Vitkowski, a young Yeshiva student, who was killed by a German bomb while falsely imprisoned near Goniadz in Osowiec.
