After the 1939 Fire

Photograph taken by George Birman on August 15,1939, the day of the accidental fire
which destroyed much of the town. Burned building at center right is Meisachowitz Pharmacy,
at corner of Klaipedos Street and Basanaviciaus Street.

Album 1, page 34 of the George Birman collection at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum contains Birman's photos dated May 13 and 15, 1938, taken after a fire in another town. The 1938 pictures appear to be Palanga, which had a devastating fire in May, 1938.
