The Holocaust
in Dubrowna
Dubrowna was occupied by the Germans on July 16, 1941. Very few Jews managed to flee prior to the occupation of the town. Jews were ordered to wear black armbands with a yellow Star of David. A ghetto was set up in early fall 1941 on Levoberegovaya Street. The ghetto inmates were taken for forced labor.
On December 6, 1941, 1,500 Jews were shot behind the yard of the local linen factory. In March 1942, the surviving skilled craftsmen and members of their families (approximately 300 people) were also shot, either in small groups or individually.
Dubrowna was the scene of considerable partisan activity. From October 1943 to June 1944, the town was at or near the front line, and was liberated by the Red Army on June 26, 1944.
