PENZUR
FAMILY
My maternal
grandmother, Celia PENZUR (later AXELROD), was born in Dubrowna
in or around 1885. Her father was Zavel or Zalek, and her mother
was Fried WOLCHUK. I know for sure of
three siblings: Bracha, Samuel and Rebecca.
At some point
in time the family moved to Ekaterinoslav.
What I am
searching for is the connection, if any, to a Mordechai PENZUR / PINZUR who was
also married to a Frieda WOLCHUK. I am
trying to determine whether they were brothers or perhaps cousins, and whether
Frieda was first married to one of them and then the other, or whether there
were two Frieda WOLCHUKs. I have one
picture of Celia taken in Russia, showing her posed with two males, one of whom
is Samuel. I don’t know who the other
young man is — whether it is another brother that I have never heard of or
someone else.
Though I’m
certain Celia was born in Dubrowna, she told me that
the name of her town (which I assume was a smaller town very close by) which
translated into English means “little hands that reach out and grab
things”. Even though I studied Russian
and have asked native Russian speakers, no one can figure out what the Russian
name of the town was.
Please contact Diana dgittel863@gmail.com if you have any information about the PENZUR family.
