Dear Eli
I am Denis Derman, a great grand child of Max & Esther Derman who were resident in Woodstock from Max’s migration with my Zeide Shraga Feivel (Philip) from Slonim Sept 1910 followed ~18 mo later by my alte Bobbe Esther with the 3 younger children and my Bobbe to be in Mar 1912. They were resident till their פתירים , both in 1932, in 16-18 Burns Road Woodstock. My zeide was נפתר aged 29 in 1918 at the height of the Spanish flu epidemic. My father and his brother Max’s grandchildren were therefore brought up in the home of Max and Esther till their death.
Naomi’s late father Ephraim was a son of Max’s youngest brother Rephoel. Ephraim travelled to Cape Town in 1924 and stayed initially and for a few years with his uncle Max.
I was born in Cape Town, my parents being Alec and Rebecca. In 1943 my father was resident and an attorney in the Strand but he moved to the southern suburbs where I and my 2 brothers grew up. The shul of which we were members of and where our bar Mitzvohs were was the Claremont HC at that time Rev Kramer. I migrated to Boston Mass in 1987 where I am currently.
