When Sheiva Sheinfeld emigrated in 1920, Bessarabia was part of the Kingdom of Romania, so she carried a Romanian passport. When she arrived in Trieste, she went to the British Consulate, where she applied for and received a visa that allowed her to travel through the United States to get to her destination in Canada. It is likely that our ancestors who emigrated to America from Bessarabia during this era carried similar documents.
