BOYARKA
Residents Database ©2013

By Karen Isabel Sanders

I like to get an idea of what a shtetl was like when my relatives lived there. I like to visualize the large family groups, types of businesses, types of craftsman, etc. In read as much about Boyarka as I could, but still wanted more. So this database is my attempt to give more depth to my understanding of life in Boyarka.

The Residents Database was compiled using many different sources for reference (see Reference section at end of list.) The spelling of the names is as seen on various documents, and where there is more than one spelling/transliteration, other variations are given. Women are listed by their maiden name, when known. Married name(s) are in a separate column. The Occupation column is the occupation while living in Boyarka (usually taken from the ship manifest.) The Birth year is often taken from documents, such as a ship manifest, where the date of birth is estimated.

If you have any names you wish to add to this database, please contact the Webmaster.
